Kiuini Preparatory School

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILTY

Social responsibility is important to us as a school since our sustainability as an organisation depends on the interest taken on wider social issues and our responsiveness to them. Our success and activities are based on honouring ethical values and respect of people, communities, and the natural environment. It is important that whilst running the school, an effort is put in improving the society around us in some way. It is a moral issue that in some areas, it encompasses such things as honesty in business and personal dealings and operating within the law.

It asks that its members 'achieve commercial success in ways that honor'.Sustainability emphasizes environmental and community stewardship.

We believe in a fair society, where those disadvantaged, whether socially and/ or economically are assisted through empowerment in uplifting their lives. Some of the efforts the school has been involved in over the years are:

In terms of safety, health and environmental protection and conservation, the school has a number of initiatives. One, is awareness creation through mobilisation of our students to scout movement and environment clubs. These clubs have been able to plant and maintain trees within the school compound and also have been involved in external ‘tree planting' initiatives. It is our believe that such knowledge at this young age would cascade into ‘green world movements' in the long run that would address the thorny issue of global warming. It is a thorny issue since some important world leaders don't believe there is such thing as 'global warming'. Second, vegetation instead of building a wall has been used as a perimeter fence for the school. Third, the school has an incinerator where wastage that cannot be decomposed (we have a compost) or catered away is destroyed by fire but with minimum pollution into the environment.

Internally, we hire, empower a diverse workforce that reflects the 'face' of Kenya. We don't shun from employing young women who are at their peak reproduction age for fear of them being away for a long time due to maternity leave. Also, we strive to have a safe and conducive working environment and pay fair and competitive salaries and wages. Other than teachers who later get absorbed into Kenya Government Service through the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), our staff turnover is very small.
